Our two most popular collections are the René and the Style wigs. Kelly has been wearing wigs from both collections since losing much of the density of her hair to androgenetic alopecia. While she prefers to keep her natural hair long and tuck it all up inside her wig, losing her hair was an uncomfortable experience and one that took time to accept.
“At first I noticed my ponytail getting thinner so I went to a dermatologist and they diagnosed me with androgenetic alopecia,” Kelly explains. “It continued to thin for about three years and eventually I lost about 50% of my overall hair volume.”
Kelly went to a scalp specialist who prescribed various ointments, cleansers, and serums to restore her hair, but when they didn’t produce the results she turned to alternative hair as an instant, guaranteed solution.
“The first wig I bought was my Style wig from Follea, in 2019,” she says. “A year after that I bought my first René, and a year after that, I bought a second René.”

“I bought a Style for my first wig because even though it’s a bigger investment, I really wanted my first piece to be the most natural-looking wig I could find,” Kelly explains. “Once I started getting into purchasing multiple wigs, my second and third pieces were both Renés because they’re just a little bit more affordable.”
What is the hair quality of the Follea René and Style?
We are all about hair quality no matter what wig you buy. All of our collections are made with pride using the finest ponytail human hair in the world. However, there are some differences between the hair used in the René and Style wigs that are worth mentioning.

In an effort to create world-class wigs for a variety of budgets, our René wig uses a blend of hand-selected Chinese and Indian hair. This hair type is much easier to source and wigs using Chinese and Indian hair are cheaper to buy. Chinese and Indian hair is strong and rich in shine, but it is also thicker and somewhat coarser than European hair.
“I like the thickness and coarse texture of this hair blend because it allows for a lot more volume which I like, and the hair holds curl very well,” says Kelly.
Hair quality of the Style wig
The hair we use to make our Style wigs is European hair, which is extremely scarce and much harder to come by than Chinese and Indian hair. European hair is fine and silky soft, making our Style wigs more natural to someone of European descent.
“If I’m going out and want that extra confidence boost and to really feel like my old self before my hair loss, I opt for my Style wig,” confirms Kelly.
Cap construction of the Follea René and Style
How a cap is constructed has a lot to do with how natural the finished wig looks. Taking a closer look at both wig collections will highlight some important differences between the two.
Construction of the Follea René
The René wigs have a hand-tied lace top and machine-wefted back. The hand-tied lace top means that each strand of hair has been tied to the wig cap 1-2 strands at a time and will allow you to move the part from side to side. The machine-wefting means that the hair has been sewn into strips then sewn, by machine, onto the wig cap. This is a faster way to construct a wig, but it doesn’t allow for the most natural movement of the hair. It’s also difficult to wear the René in high hairstyles such as high ponytails or top knots as the machine wefting will show.
Construction of the Follea Style
The Style wigs don’t have any machine-wefting and are 100% hand-tied. It takes the skilled artisans in our factory several weeks to painstakingly hand tie each strand of hair to the wig cap and this allows for the most natural movement of the hair. Customers who wear our Style wig are able to braid their hair, wear high buns, and even space buns and the wig still looks completely natural.
“My Style wig moves very freely and naturally,” says Kelly.
Cap materials of the Follea René and Style
In addition to the cap construction, the materials used to make the two collections differ and this will affect the overall natural look of the finished wigs.
The René wigs have a lace top. We use the finest Swiss lace to create our wigs and it’s extremely fine but strong and kind to the most sensitive skin. The lace material will be visible along the part line of the hair, and it won’t offer the most natural look on close inspection.
The Style wigs have a voluminous skin top, or silk top, which is made from several layers or material to create a natural-looking scalp. When you part the hair on the Style wig, unlike the lace top on the René, it looks exactly like the hair is growing from the scalp.
“The lace top of the René allows for a bit more breathability and feels more lightweight,” attests Kelly when asked. “The skin top on the Style looks the most natural but some people might feel hotter in it. I personally don’t feel hot in any of my wigs.”
